It was supposed to be our graduation trip. My childhood friend, Peter, was taking meBut his girl buddy insisted on eating snake egg she found in the mountains.
Wild snake eggs are a powerful tonic. What's wrong with me wanting to give my chest a little boost?
I knew it was a bad idea. That night, I stole the egg, planning to return it to where she found it.
Suddenly my vision blurred, rows of comments appeared before my eyes
[That egg is actually the villain's younger brother! The female lead ate the villain's brother but framed the supporting female character. The villain nearly strangled her to death.]
[That king cobra has already cultivated into a great demon. The supporting female character is afraid of snakes and used the female lead as a shield against the snake, only to be thrown into the mountains by the male lead.]
[Exactly! Clearly, the childhood friend and the female lead were traveling together, but the supporting female character had to tag along. Though, the extreme push-and-pull is the most ambiguous. The female lead said her chest hurts, and the male lead is massaging it for her!]
Terrified by these comments, I started packing my suitcase overnight, ready to flee.
But as I zipped my bag, I heard a soft crack from the stolen egg.
It split open!
A tiny snake, with a piece of eggshell still perched on its head, looked up at me.
And then, I heard it, clear as day in my mind, "Mommy!"
It all started senior year. Peter said he wanted to take me on a road trip to celebrate graduation.
He'd had his driver's license since sophomore year.
I planned for two weeks. Originally, we agreed to go to the beach, but a week before we left, Peter suddenly texted to change the destination to the mountains.
"The mountains will be cooler, and we can even go stream trekking, have water fights."
"Joan, if you want to go to the beach, I'll take you after we get back, okay?"
Since he promised to go to the beach with me later, I decided to accompany him to the mountains first.
On the day of departure, I walked up to his car and saw a long-haired girl already in the passenger seat.
"Surprise!" she said, grinning. "Didn't expect us, did you? We're coming too!"
"You must be Joan, right? I'm Gwen. Peter's told me all about you. You really do look so... sweet."
She rolled down the window, gesturing for me to put my luggage in the trunk.
Three boys were crammed in the back seat, all smiling at me.
Peter gave me an apologetic look.
"Gwen's from the mountains originally. She said she could be our guide."
"Joan, you don't mind us crashing your and Peter's trip, do you?"
"It's not good for just the two of you, a guy and a girl alone together... He shouldn't get you too easily, or he won't cherish you."
She punched Peter's shoulder playfully,
"I'm telling you, us girls aren't that easy to win over."
Peter raised his hands in surrender,
"I wasn't trying to…"
His face flushed red, turning back to me.
"Joan, don't listen to her. I…"
I just nodded,
"I see."
Peter had confessed to me right before college applications.
We'd known each other since elementary school.
Our relationship was always speacial.
When playing house, he often fought to be my "husband".
